Pinewood Pro Gives Back

Pinewood Pro Donations

Pinewood Pro is proud to have helped manage pinewood derby car races, volunteered at pinewood derby races, donated to needy scouts, Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scouts every year since we started Pinewood Pro in 1999.

Pinewood Pro Donations

As a former Cub Scout and father of a Boy Scout (that's my son as a Cub Scout in the upper right after winning a Pinewood Derby race), we believe very strongly in the values of scouting and helping by giving back to Scouting and pinewood derby car racing.

Pinewood Derby racing was always special to me as a young cub scout (even though I never won a single race - see About Pinewood Pro). It became even more special as I got to live it over again with my son (who won just about EVERY derby race!). When I started giving away our Winning Secrets (after my son moved to the boy scouts!) and finally selling our Winning Secrets book, I made a promise to contribute to Scouting as long as I owned Pinewood Pro.

I do not believe in flashing my contributions in front of people but I thought it was important to state our goals and show how Pinewood Pro stands for helping people, not only through our top-notch products but through volunteering and donating back to scouting.

While my bias is naturally toward BSA scouting, where my son has worked up through Cub Scouts to an aspiring Eagle Scout in Troop 65, I have made many "Pinewood Derby" friends in AWANA Grand Prix, Girl Scouts Grand Prix, WIRL, Kub Kar Rally and others.

While Pinewood Pro gives me great satisfaction to make great products that help people race their pinewood derby, I feel a special joy to be able make these contributions:

      Tips & Hints

Spin each wheel and axle and count the number of revolutions. Keep the slowest pair together and replace them with a faster set.

Tungsten Putty is ideal for getting your car up to the maximum 5 oz limit. Drill a hole in the bottom of your car and insert Pinewood Pro Putty as the last step to bring your car to 5.0 oz. If the official scale weighs you in at 5.1 oz, simply remove a small amount of putty to bring it back to 5.0 oz.

Crooked axle slots are perhaps the number one reason cars crash into the lane guides. Drill the axle slot with a drill press or the PRO Driller to be sure your axles go in straight and are square to the block.

    • Everything was great! It was my son's first Kubcar race...approx 60 cars, and he took 1st place! He was so excited... Thanks again. Your Winning Pinewood Derby Secrets book really helped!

My daughter won 1st place, and my son won 3rd place. It was very fun and hope to do again next year. Thanks for your great information,
      - Barry from MI

    • Great tips in your Winning Secrets book! This was our first year and my son was the overall District Winner. There were 250 racers at the District race so I'm guessing we have something like 1,000 scouts in our district. With that type of competition you need these tips to be competitive.
