Bent 2.5° Graphite-Coated BSA Pinewood Derby Axles (2)

Pinewood Pro’s 2.5° steering axles start as the BSA Pinewood Derby axles from the official kit. We then lathe them to become our Polished BSA Pinewood Derby Axles and then we add these additional upgrades:

• 2.5 degree shaft bend to cant the rear wheels. More on that below!

• Angled underside of the axle head to reduce wheel contact friction

• Slotted head to easily turn the axle with a screwdriver

• Exclusive graphite coating to reduce friction and increase speed

• Note: Outside of the axle head is not coated

• Also note: Only use graphite powder on the wheel bore and axles as lubricant. Do not use NyOil!

Why use 2.5° bent axles?

2.5° bent axles orient your wheels towards the axle head where there is less friction, and away from the car body where there is more friction in a process known as “canting.” Less friction = faster car!

These axles are pre-bent in the perfect spot away from the wheel. You can also use them to build a rail rider car!

How do I install 2.5° bent axles?

• Gently insert the axles into the rear slots as you would with a straight axle 

• PRO Tip: Use the PRO Axle Aligner Guide to help ensure the straight end goes in straight

• Turn the axles using the convenient slot in the head to twist the axle with a flathead screwdriver so the wheel is sitting on just the inner edge of the tread

• Alternatively, use our PRO Axle Hole Driller Tool to drill your own 2.5º hole into the car body directly and insert a straight axle for the same effect. 

PRO Tip: You cannot see a 2.5 degree bend with the naked eye! You’ll notice the difference by rolling the axle across a flat surface.
