Very helpful for son's first Derby
Great resource just to help collect ideas and steps especially for starting out with a newcomer. Of course I remember my Pinewood Derby days as a kid, but being on the other end is different. My son had a terrific experience as a Tiger in his first race (and was a winner). This book is terrific for basic tips.

A first derby essential
Two weeks to go before our first derby and not a clue about what to do. I find PD in SES. The "aha" moment. One trip to local outdoor store and Home Depot. Son very motivated. Can't believe his dad knows what to do!! Thanks. By the way..... He won the race. Need PD in SES 2.0 for next year.

A Useful Primer
Having not built a Pinewood Derby car for decades, I found the Pinewood Derby in Six Easy Steps manual very useful. My son and I worked on the car progressively for a number of weekends by following the steps in the manual. Much to our surprise, he finished second amongst the Wolves in his pack and Top 10 of all participants.

First derby for my son and I.Rich from Long Island N. Y.
Like I said in the title. First timers for me and my six year old son. Once we made the choice on design the guide helped us put the car together quickly . Everything is in nice steps order. I'm happy to say that my son finished third in his den and will be receiving a trophy at the blue and gold ceremony this week. He was so excited to watch his car go down the track winning a few heats .

Great Resource!!
My oldest son had his first pine derby race. Since I was not a cub scout I had no idea what was involved. Imagine my surprise when I opened the car kit that he received from scouts and found a block of wood, 4 nails and wheels. This book gave us ideas and the dos and don'ts of building a pine derby car. We didn't win, but we had much more fun doing it once we had a clue!!!

Great manual for Pinewood Derby!
I had never made anything out of wood myself before. When my 6 year old son entered the cubscout Pinewood Derby I had no idea how I can help him make a sports car out of wood. I went online and found this manual. This was great!! It was easy to download instantly, easy to follow. It covered everything from cutting wood, finishing, painting, installing wheels, and making the car faster. My son and I had great fun making a great looking car. We won one of the three races!! I will highly recommend it to anyone.

The essentials
Having said 'basic designs' as a con, I understand this isn't a complex design booklet. I was hoping for many more templates, beyond the 2 basic cuts (wedge and race car). My son and I were jazzed by all the photos on this website; gave great ideas. This booklet gives you the necessities, indeed. Axel polishing, graphite, etc. Without that you are in last place.

Great for First Timers
This guide made it really fun for my son and I to build our first car together. I highly recommend it, based on the easy to follow (and organized) plan, some nice tips and even the templates. I am glad I came across this guide and site.

Pinewood Derby 6 Easy Steps
We purchased this book looking for ideas to help our nephew, who is a Tiger Cub, build his first pinewood derby car. This booklet provided a variety of templates for several different styles of cars. Our nephew chose to use the single cut template primarily because cutting through pinewood is "hard work." We will be saving this booklet to use for next year's pinewood derby event. Who knows, maybe next year my nephew will want to try a multiple cut template. Overall, this book is an EXCELLENT resource for anyone who will be participating in a pinewood derby.

A Big Help
Overall this was a great guide for knowing nothing of the pinewood derby. We would have been completely lost without it and our car probably would not have made it down the track. Our son placed 9th out of 22 and we thought this was great for his first year and us not knowing anything. They also gave great tips. I would recomend this book and next year I will probably get Joe's other books to improve our car. thanks

Pinewood Derby in Six Easy Steps
My son waited until the DAY BEFORE our pinewood derby to work on his car. In a big hurry we downloaded the booklet and he went with the simplest design template. He followed all the directions as best as a 10-yr-old can and by 4PM weighed his car in. Although he didn't win first, his time came in second overall in his den! He's so excited he's already planning next year's car - and I'm sure we'll get the next booklet, too!

Pinewood Derby Six Easy Steps
This was our first pinewood derby. My son placed second out of 51 cars. We are racing in the regionals this Spring. Nothing could replace the look on his face as he won race after race. It was awesome!!
