This adjustable tool works for BSA, PineCar, and AWANA pinewood derby blocks and even Boy Scout Blastcars!

PRO Axle Puller and Inserter

axle inserter - puller tool

Insert and Remove Axles Without Damage

How do you cleanly insert axles into those tight slots?

How to remove stuck axles without damaging your wheels?

One end of this handy Tool easily glides your axles into the slot.

The other end is used to easily grip the axle head and gently pull it out.

The Axle Inserter and Puller Tool is essential if you are using Ultra-Lite wheels which can be damaged when pulling them in and out.

Wheel Spacer Gauge

If your wheels are too tight, your car slows dramatically. If they are too loose, your car wobbles, also slowing your car down.

The Wheel Spacer is a stainless steel "feeler gauge" that sets the exact spacing between your wheel hub and car body so your car runs at optimal speed.

Just slide the Wheel Spacer over your axle and push the axle in until it is snug against the Wheel Spacer. Remove, and voila, perfect spacing.

The Wheel Spacer tool makes this critical adjustment fast, easy and perfect, every time.

Consider our complementary tool, the Axle Puller and Inserter, to insert your axles easily. One end is used to insert and the other end is used to remove axles without damaging your wheels (or your fingers!).

Axle Guide

The Axle Guide will improve the speed of your pinewood derby car by ensuring accurate mounting of axles:

  1. Axle Insertion - Ensures accurate mounting of axles (in axle slots) to improve alignment. Accurate alignment is critical for top speed!

  2. Wheel-to-body Spacing - Establishes the correct gap between the wheel hub and car body. The proper gap minimizes car wander and reduces excess contact between the car body and the wheel hubs.

  3. Reduced Risk of Block Damage - During the insertion process the Axle Guide provides support to the wood around the axle slot, minimizing the risk of damage.

Accurately mount your axles to perfect your car!

Axle Press

Unfortunately, the nails used for axles with many car kits were designed for fastening, not for use as axles. Although they look straight, most nail axles have a slight bend, are slightly out of round, and the nail head is not square to the axle shaft.

The Axle Press will create absoloutely straight axles and absolutely round axles. It can also be used to square the axle head to the axle shaft.

Build the perfect axles with the Axle Press Tool.

Rail Rider Tool

Got a test track? Try this!

The Rail Rider Tool bends your axles to make your car rub against the center guide rail, or 'ride the rail.'

The Rail Rider technique is used to make one front wheel "ride the rail" thereby rolling straight down the track. Tests have proven this technique to yield superior speed over a car that hits the rail, comes off, hits again, etc.

Note: this technique is best done if you have a track to perform the tests required to get the car to gently ride the rails, rather than driving it into the rails.

Instructions included.

IMPORTANT: This tool requires the Axle Press Tool, which is sold seperately. You must have both tools.

    Pinewood Derby Axle File

    derby bore polisher

    Less Friction = More Speed!

Pinewood Derby axle file is used to remove burrs and reduce friction.

BSA axles are actually nails that have burrs and crimp marks from manufacturing. These defects act like brakes and must be removed or your car will have trouble reaching the finish line!

This handy little file solves the problem for you. Just put the axle in a vice and file off the defects.

We recommend getting the axle polishing kit to complete the job of turning your rough-cut nails into high performance axles!

    Pinewood Derby Drill Bit

    derby bore polisher

The perfect fit your axles need!

This is the perfect-sized drill bit for pinewood derby axle holes! This #43 drill bit is .089" (or .25mm), which is just big enough to allow you to hand-insert your axles, so you can push your axles in with your fingers instead of a hammer!

This gives you the perfect diameter to hand insert your axles, saving your fingers and insuring that your axles go in straight.

We have found that a #44 drill bit is too small, making it impossible to push axles in with your fingers, adding risk of bending or breaking an axle before the race even begins! This #43 gives a snug fit while making it easy to safely insert your axles.

This drill bit works perfectly in our PRO Driller Tool.

        Tips & Hints

If you have a bad wheel and you don't have time to replace it, Raise that Wheel so it doesn't touch the track. Since it doesn't touch the track, it won't have any negative affect on your car's speed.

        weights Tip

Tungsten weights are ideal for pinewood derby cars. Tungsten is about 1/3 smaller than a zinc piece with the same weight. Therefore, you can pack Tungsten weights in a smaller area to optimize your center of gravity to maximize inertia giving you greater speed at the finish gate.

        Pinewood Derby
        building Hint

Be sure any decorative parts are super glued into place! If you lose a piece off your car it will affect the weight of the car, resulting in loss of inertia, decreasing your speed.
